September Morn: A Memorial Drabble
Sad September morning mist shrouded the sea... dampening faces... merging with tears.
A single voice, rough with heartbroken emotion.
"They went up. All that smoke... all that fire. Still, they went up."
A long, shattered breath...
"You'd have done the same thing. It's what all of you do, isn't it? You heroes? While the rest of the world is fleeing down doomed stairwells. You charge up."
The desperate hitch in Jim's voice spoke volumes. "So would you, Chief. So would you."
Sharing his sorrow, Blair pressed his shoulder firmly against Jim's, staring into the dark, churning sea.
Some anniversaries are never forgotten.
(In memory of the heroes of 9/11/01...)
